Ceremonial Rollout of the first German Armoured Personnel Carrier (GTFz) and delivery to OCCAR and German Procurement Agency with attendance of both the Ministers of Defence from Germany and The Netherlands

The German Army and the Royal Army of The Netherlands will be provided with an unrivalled 8x8 vehicle in terms of protection, payload, performance and modularity.

ARTEC, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall Defence have invited for the ceremonial Rollout of the first BOXER series vehicle in the presence of the German Minister of Defence, Dr. Franz Josef Jung and the Netherland’s Minister of Defence Mr. Eimert van Middelkoop.

The highly protected vehicle will be handed over on September 23, 2009 at KMW premises in Munich to OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matiére d’ARmement) and the German Procurement Agency (BWB).

In total the first batch ordered comprises 472 vehicles in nine different variants – 272 for Germany in four variants, 200 for The Netherlands in five variants.

Delivery for the Royal Army of The Netherlands will start in 2011.

The four key features of BOXER are

  • Protection - Survivability without compromise
  • Payload - Integral growth potential
  • Performance - Excellent mobility under extreme conditions
  • Modularity - The mission changes, so does BOXER

The concept and design of the BOXER has been proven and qualified by extensive reliability and durability trials (180,000 km) with 12 prototypes in 9 different variants according to the challenging requirements of Germany and The Netherlands since 2003. An integrated Logistics Support concept has also been developed and qualified in parallel to the vehicle qualification.
